Chapter 16 - The Night Before the Storm

Don Moretti didn't flinch. He slowly raised his hand, and his six heavily armed bodyguards instantly stepped forward, pulling automatic weapons from under their coats.
"So what if it's true?" Moretti sneered, leaning over the table. "You're outnumbered in your own boardroom, Elias. Half the bosses in this room are tired of the Ferrante family holding the throne. Today, the crown changes hands."
The room grew dead silent.
Moretti’s lead gunman aimed his submachine gun straight at Elias’s chest.
"Drop your weapons!" the gunman ordered.
Before anyone could move, Marin acted.
In a movement so fast it seemed almost invisible, she stepped in front of Elias, drew her suppressed pistol, and fired three precise shots.
Thwip. Thwip. Thwip.
The lead gunman, the second bodyguard, and the man standing behind Moretti dropped to the floor instantly, holes drilled cleanly through their foreheads.
Before the remaining three bodyguards could adjust their aim, Elias drew his own weapon, firing three powerful shots that took them down in a heartbeat.
In less than three seconds, all six of Moretti’s elite protectors were dead on the marble floor.
The other bosses at the table scrambled back in sheer horror, dropping their guns onto the table and raising their hands in total surrender.
Don Moretti sat frozen in his chair, his silver cane slipping from his shaking fingers as he stared at the young woman standing beside Elias—her pistol smoking, her eyes as cold as absolute zero.

"Who... who is she?" Moretti gasped, his voice cracking.
Elias leaned over the table, pressing the barrel of his gun against Moretti's forehead. "She's my night nurse. And her shift just ended."
