Chapter 11 - Ambush on Ocean Drive

|

The strike was blindingly fast.

Elias’s men breached the eastern side doors of the warehouse with flashbang grenades. The deafening BANG-BANG echoed off the corrugated steel walls, filling the massive building with thick white smoke and blinding flashes of light.

Screams and wild gunfire erupted instantly as Moretti’s men scrambled for cover.

Marin moved like a shadow through the smoke. While Elias’s soldiers engaged the main body of hitmen in a roaring firefight, she flanked the perimeter, her suppressed pistol taking out two shooters positioning themselves on the high catwalks above.

Thwip. Thwip.

Both gunmen tumbled over the railings, hitting the concrete floor below.

Valenti, panicked and coughing from the smoke, scrambled toward his bulletproof Mercedes, guarded by his two personal bodyguards.

"Get the car started!" Valenti screamed, pulling a gun from his coat. "We need to get to the airport!"

Before the driver could reach the door, Marin dropped from the top of a wooden crate, landing squarely on his back. She drove the butt of her pistol into his neck, dropping him instantly, then rolled smoothly behind the rear tire as Valenti opened fire.

BLAM! BLAM! BLAM!

Bullets sparked off the metal rim near her head.

"Who the hell are you?!" Valenti shrieked into the smoke, firing blindly.

"I'm the night nurse," Marin’s voice echoed cold and clear from the shadows behind the car.

A second later, Elias stepped out of the haze directly in front of Valenti. He didn't fire. He simply raised his heavy pistol and shot Valenti cleanly through his right knee.

Valenti let out an agonizing scream, collapsing onto the wet concrete, clutching his shattered leg.
