Chapter 17 - Blood on the Pavement

|

The bullet tore through Clara’s shoulder, spinning her violently before she hit the asphalt.

"Clara!" Damian roared, a sound of pure, unadulterated agony.

He didn't seek cover. He turned his weapon on the catwalk, unloading the entire magazine into the sniper until the man plummeted to the ground. Luca and the remaining guards pushed forward, overwhelming the attackers with brutal force.

Damian dropped his gun and fell to his knees beside Clara. Blood was pooling beneath her, staining her white blouse crimson.

"Look at me, look at me," Damian panicked, his hands shaking as he pressed his coat aggressively against her wound to stop the bleeding. "Don't close your eyes, Clara. Stay with me!"

Clara gasped for air, the pain blinding her. She reached up with a trembling, blood-stained hand, touching his cheek. "The boys... are they..."

"They're fine, they're safe," Damian choked out, his dark eyes shining with unshed tears. "You took a bullet for me. Why would you do that?"

"Because I love them," Clara whispered, her vision fading to black. "And I think... I love you."
