Chapter 13 - The Fall of the Queen

|

Damian stopped inches from Victoria. He didn't raise a hand. He didn't need to. His mere presence was suffocating.

"You packed your diamonds while my sons were trapped in a burning room," Damian said, his voice a lethal whisper. "You ordered my men to execute the woman who saved them."

"I panicked!" Victoria sobbed, falling to her knees, grasping at his trousers. "I was terrified! I'm their mother, Damian! You can't do this to me!"

"You ceased being their mother the moment you walked out that door," Damian replied coldly. He looked up at Luca. "Take her to the basement."

Victoria screamed, thrashing wildly as two massive guards hoisted her off the floor by her arms. "You can't! My family will declare war! Damian! DAMIAN!"

Her screams echoed down the hallway until the heavy steel door of the basement slammed shut, cutting off the sound completely.

Clara stood frozen by the doorway, her hands shaking. She had seen the ruthless side of the mafia in the news, but witnessing it up close made her blood run cold.

Damian turned to her. The monster vanished, replaced by the calm, authoritative man. "She won't bother you again."

"Are you... are you going to kill her?" Clara asked, her voice trembling.

"I don't make widows of myself unless I have to," Damian said casually, pouring himself a drink. "She'll be sent back to her father in disgrace. The marriage is over."

He walked over to Clara, handing her a glass of water. "Go upstairs. The doctor is tending to Owen. Your room is next to the nursery. Get some rest, Clara. Tomorrow, your new life begins."
