Chapter 14 - What the Lenses Saw

|
By 8:00 a.m., I was sitting in the basement screening room of our network's Seattle headquarters alongside our senior legal counsel, Arthur Vance, and Detective Marcus Reed via a secure video uplink from Denver.
Maya loaded the video file timestamped December 24th, 6:15 p.m.—just two hours before I had arrived at Grant's mansion for Christmas dinner.
The high-resolution footage showed Grant’s private study.
Lila was standing before his heavy mahogany desk, weeping softly as Grant stood over her, holding a heavy wooden ruler. The footage documented forty-five minutes of systematic, cold-blooded psychological and physical abuse—a terrifying display of a man methodically breaking a child's spirit for failing a posture drill.
"Turn it off," Marcus growled from the video screen, his knuckles white as he gripped his desk in Denver. "That's enough. That is undisputed video evidence of felony child torture."
Arthur Vance, our legal counsel, turned to me with an expression of profound shock. "Evan, this evidence is completely ironclad. Because the server belonged to his commercial entity and wasn't seized via illegal police entry, it's fully admissible in court under federal whistleblower protection laws."
"I don't just want it in court, Arthur," I said, leaning forward. "I want it on every television screen in America."
"We can air an investigative special tonight," Arthur agreed, nodding sharply. "We obscure Lila's face and voice, highlight the corporate cover-up, and expose Whitaker Strategic Risk's government contracts at the same time."

I looked at the paused screen—at my brother's arrogant, cruel face captured in crisp 4K resolution.
"Do it," I ordered. "Broadcast it."
