Chapter 18 - The Dawn of a New Life

One year later.
The morning sun flooded our villa’s courtyard with warm, golden light.
Tables were set across the green lawn, covered in white linens, fresh flowers, and platters of delicious food. Friends, local neighbors, Bellini, Marco, and Detective Singh—who had become a close family friend—were laughing and celebrating together under the clear blue sky.
Grace stood near the fountain, wearing a beautiful floral dress, holding little Leo who was now walking on his own, his tiny feet wobbling happily as he chased a golden butterfly across the grass.
I walked up behind Grace, wrapping my arms around her waist, resting my chin on her shoulder as we watched our son giggle with pure, unbridled joy.
“He caught his first butterfly yesterday,” Grace smiled, leaning back against my chest. “Well... he tried to eat it, but we saved it in time.”
I laughed softly, kissing her cheek. “Sounds like a true Rossi.”
“A new kind of Rossi,” she corrected gently, turning in my arms to look up into my eyes. “A family built on love... not secrets.”
She reached up and touched my face, her thumb tracing the faint scar on my cheek from that terrible night in the waterworks. The scar remained, but the pain behind it was entirely gone.
Bellini walked over, holding a camera, a bright smile on his face.
“Allow me to take a photograph, please,” the old butler asked warmly. “For the new mantlepiece.”

Grace and I stood together beside the fountain, holding little Leo between us, his tiny hands holding onto both of ours.
The camera shutter clicked, capturing the image of three people who had survived the deepest darkness and emerged into the brightest light.
