Chapter 17 - The Downfall of a Hero

I clicked the remote again.
The video on the screens disappeared, replaced by high-resolution scans of the Cayman Island bank ledgers, showing $3.2 million stolen from Haley’s educational trust fund, followed by the handwritten photo from the yacht: “Soon, we’ll finally be a family again.”
The ballroom erupted into complete chaos. Reporters were shouting questions at once, camera flashes strobing violently like a lightning storm.
"He stole from his own daughter!" a shareholder yelled. "Vance Capital is a fraud!"
Sierra, panicked and desperate, rushed to the center of the stage, grabbing the podium microphone from Dylan.
"This is all a lie!" Sierra screamed hysterically into the mic. "Elena is a bitter, mentally unstable woman trying to ruin us! Dylan saved my son because he loves Ryan like his own father!"
I looked at Sierra with pure, icy pity.
"He isn't Ryan's father, Sierra," I announced clearly into my microphone. "And you know it."
I clicked the remote one final time.
The official DNA sequencing report from the Supreme Court appeared on the giant screens, highlighting the biological paternity result: Marcus Vance.
Sierra went dead silent, her mouth dropping open, her eyes wide with absolute horror.
Dylan turned his head slowly, looking at Sierra like he had been struck by a physical blow. "What... what is that? Sierra... what does that mean?"
"It means," I stated, my voice echoing across the room like a divine judgment, "that Sierra was using you to unlock your dead brother’s $20 million trust. You ruined your family, stole from your daughter, and destroyed your life for a woman who was playing you for a fool."
Dylan grabbed Sierra’s shoulders, shaking her wildly. "Is this true?! Is Ryan Marcus's son?! Answer me, Sierra! Answer me!"
"Get your hands off me, you idiot!" Sierra shrieked, shoving Dylan away with pure venom. "You think I ever loved a weak, pathetic fool like you?! You were just a bank account!"
Before Dylan could even process her words, the double doors of the ballroom burst open again.
Six uniformed officers from the Financial Crimes Unit, accompanied by two representatives from the District Attorney's office, marched down the central aisle.
"Dylan Vance! Sierra Miller!" Detective Miller announced loudly, pulling out two sets of steel handcuffs. "You are both under arrest for grand larceny, corporate embezzlement, wire fraud, and criminal structural negligence!"
The police stepped onto the stage.
In front of three hundred high-society guests, fifty news cameras, and a live television audience of millions, Dylan Vance was slammed face-down onto the mahogany podium and handcuffed like a common criminal.

As he was dragged off the stage, his eyes met mine.
I raised my champagne glass to him, taking a slow, graceful sip as his empire crumbled into dust.
