Chapter 30 - A New Chapter

The following spring, Bennett Global announced its most successful quarter in five years. The European restructuring had exceeded all financial projections, and the employee pension fund was fully secured and growing rapidly.
Charlotte sat in her office, reviewing the final quarterly report, when Ethan walked in carrying two cups of coffee.
"To the most successful CEO this company has ever had," Ethan smiled, handing her a cup.
"Chairwoman," Charlotte corrected playfully. "And we both know David handles the day-to-day operations as CEO now."
"You set the vision, Charlotte. You made the hard calls," Ethan insisted, taking a seat. "Speaking of hard calls, we received an inquiry from a major tech firm in Denver. They’re looking for a development partner for a new affordable housing initiative."
Charlotte paused, her coffee cup halfway to her mouth. "Denver?"
"Yes," Ethan said, his tone entirely professional, though a knowing glint danced in his eyes. "The firm is looking for a partner with a strong track record of ethical development. They specifically requested a meeting with Bennett Global. The lead developer on their end is Ryan Bennett."
The silence in the office was thick for a moment.
Ryan. He had been quietly building his own career, without the safety net of the family name. And now, he was reaching out. Not for a handout, but for a legitimate business partnership based on the ethical standards she had established.
Charlotte considered the proposal. She thought of the letter he had sent her, the one she had never answered.
I’m finally learning.
"It’s an interesting proposal," Charlotte said finally, setting her cup down. "Affordable housing aligns perfectly with our new corporate charter."
"So, we take the meeting?" Ethan asked.
Charlotte looked out the window at the sprawling Manhattan skyline. She was no longer the quiet wife standing in the shadows, waiting for her husband to defend her. She was the leader of a global empire, secure in her power and her purpose.

"Yes, Ethan," Charlotte smiled, a genuine, unburdened expression. "Set up the meeting. Let’s see what Ryan has actually learned."
It wasn't a reconciliation. It wasn't a return to the past. It was simply business between two people who had finally figured out who they were supposed to be. And as Charlotte turned back to her work, she knew, with absolute certainty, that she was exactly where she belonged.
