Chapter 19 - The Father's Final Message

|

That evening, I returned to the Oakridge estate for the first time since the raid.

The police tape had been removed, and the grand house was quiet, bathed in the warm, golden light of the setting sun. I walked through the high-ceilinged foyer, no longer feeling the ghostly terror of Arthur's presence, but feeling the comforting memory of my father's true legacy.

I walked down to the basement server room. The industrial fans were quiet now, the servers humming softly in a idle maintenance mode.

I sat at my father's personal desk, opened his private terminal, and loaded a hidden video file Marcus had unlocked for me earlier that afternoon.

The screen lit up, revealing my father sitting in his favorite leather armchair, wearing his old tweed jacket, a gentle smile on his face.

“Hello, my sweet Sarah,” my father said softly from the recording. “If you are watching this, it means the storm has passed. It means you stood your ground, faced the monsters in our family, and proved to the world what I always knew: that you are far stronger than Arthur, Mary, or anyone else could ever comprehend.”

Tears ran down my cheeks, but for the first time in years, they weren't tears of grief or pain. They were tears of pure, unadulterated peace.

“I am sorry I couldn't protect you from the pain of their deception,” my father continued, his voice thick with emotion. “But I built Vanguard for you not just as a company, but as a shield. Use it well, my daughter. Live your life without fear. The house is yours. The future is yours.”

The video faded to black, leaving my father's final words echoing through the quiet room.

I closed the laptop, stood up, and walked out of the basement into the cool, fresh night air.
