Chapter 17 - Confrontation in the Boardroom

|

Ten minutes later, I walked into the cold, concrete interrogation room at the precinct. Julian sat behind the metal table, wearing an orange jumpsuit, his wrists cuffed to a heavy iron ring bolted to the center of the table.

He looked hollow, his swagger completely stripped away, leaving behind only the desperate, cornered animal underneath.

"You think you won, don't you?" Julian rasped, his voice dark and raspy as I sat down across from him.

"I didn't win, Julian," I said calmly, crossing my hands over the table. "I simply stopped participating in your lie."

Julian leaned forward, the chains rattling against the metal. "Your father is a dead man walking, Ara. The people behind Apex Holdings aren't going to let you walk away with those patent keys. They will hunt you down."

I pulled a fresh, official court document from my bag and set it flat on the table in front of him.

"Apex Holdings was dissolved an hour ago by federal injunction," I replied smoothly. "And as for those 'people'... three of your primary corporate investors were arrested at JFK airport forty-five minutes ago trying to board a private flight to Zurich."

Julian’s breath hitched. His eyes darted around the room as if searching for an escape hatch that didn't exist.

"Sign the full divorce settlement and the property waiver, Julian," I said, handing him a pen. "Or I hand the District Attorney the secondary hard drive from my father's vault."

Julian stared at the pen, his hands shaking violently, before slowly reaching out his cuffed fingers to grab it.
