By 5:00 PM, the financial dominoes began to fall with catastrophic speed.
With Apex Holdings' assets frozen, Julian's high-priced defense attorneys suddenly realized their retainer checks were bouncing. The private hard-money lenders Julian had borrowed from to fund his extravagant lifestyle received automatic alerts that his collateral had vanished into thin air.
Inside his holding cell at the 15th Precinct, Julian was informed that his bail application had been denied due to the new federal corporate fraud and grand larceny charges filed by the Department of Justice.
I received a call from Detective Miller at 6:30 PM.
"Ms. Vance," Detective Miller said over the phone. "Julian is requesting a private meeting with you in the interrogation room. He claims he will sign a full confession to the domestic assault and surrender all claims to your property if you speak to him for five minutes."
Sarah looked at me, shaking her head. "Don't do it, Ara. It's a ploy."
