Carol backed away from the table, her hands trembling as she realization dawned on her. "You... you tricked me..."
"You ruined your own life the day you watched me bleed on the floor and told me I deserved it," I said, my voice cold and absolute. "Security, please escort Mrs. Vance off the premises."

Once the hallway went quiet, Sarah turned to me with a sharp, admiring smile. "That confession gives us enough probable cause to freeze all of Apex Holdings' domestic accounts immediately."
"We need to get to Manhattan Central Vault before Julian's legal team realizes what we're holding," I said, standing up and grabbing my handbag.
Thirty minutes later, Sarah and I stood in the subterranean vault of the Manhattan Central Bank, surrounded by thousands of polished stainless-steel safety deposit boxes.
The vault attendant inserted his master key into Box 714, then stepped back as I inserted the rusted iron key my father had hidden in the desk.
The lock clicked open with a heavy, satisfying metallic thud.

I pulled out a thick, leather-bound journal and a black hardware crypto-wallet device stamped with my father's initials: A.V.
Inside the journal, written in my father's neat, precise hand, was the complete account of what had happened six years ago—including the master encryption key passwords and the location where he had been hiding.
