Chapter 7 - Midnight Foreclosure

|

“Ivan... what is the meaning of this?” Brenda demanded, her voice rising into a shrill panic as she grabbed his arm. “What are those papers? Why did he say Whitmore Global frozen our accounts?”

Ivan’s hands shook as he flipped frantically through the legal pages.

There, stamped in bold black ink on the top cover, was the official corporate seal of Whitmore Global Capital—the shadowy private equity firm that had anonymously backed his initial Series A funding round.

Below the seal was the signature of the managing director: Samuel Brooks, Esq.

“No, no, no,” Ivan muttered, sweat breaking out across his forehead, ruining his tailored look. “This is a misunderstanding. Samuel Brooks is my mother’s old family lawyer. He handles her tiny little widow’s trust!”

Arthur Montgomery marched up to the pavilion, his face contorted in rage. “Ivan! Did you use stolen patents to build Whitmore Dynamics? Answer me right now!”

“Of course not, Arthur!” Ivan lied desperately, wiping his brow. “It’s a corporate hit job! Someone is trying to sabotage my IPO!”

Before Arthur could reply, the owner of the Napa Valley estate walked briskly toward the head table, accompanied by four heavy-set security guards. The owner’s expression was cold as stone.

“Mr. Whitmore,” the estate owner said loudly. “We have just been notified by our merchant bank that the wire transfer for this venue has been officially revoked by Whitmore Global Trust.”

“I can write you a personal check!” Ivan yelled, his voice cracking.

“Your personal accounts were frozen ten minutes ago, sir,” the owner replied coldly. “The event is terminated immediately. I must ask all guests to vacate the premises within fifteen minutes.”

Gasps reverberated through the crowd. High-society women grabbed their designer clutches in disgust; tech CEOs quickly backed away from the head table as if Ivan were wearing a contagious disease.

“This is an outrage!” Brenda screamed, tears smearing her expensive mascara. “You can't throw us out of our own wedding!”

May you like

“I can, and I am,” the owner stated flatly. “And Mr. Whitmore? The valet service has just been instructed by law enforcement to impound the 2026 Maybach you arrived in. It was leased under Whitmore Global’s corporate umbrella.”

Ivan stood frozen as his bride burst into hysterical sobs, his in-laws glared at him with murderous intent, and his high-society friends rushed for the exits, whipping out their phones to leak the scandal to the press.
