Chapter 18 - A Shift in Dynamics

The confession hung heavily in the quiet air of the penthouse.
Lily’s breath hitched. For the past three days, they had existed in a strange, intense bubble of survival and revenge. He was the protector; she was the victim.
But looking into his eyes now, the dynamic was fundamentally shifting.
He wasn't looking at her with pity. He was looking at her with a dark, consuming hunger, mixed with an undeniable, fierce reverence. He saw the curves she usually tried to hide, the scars of her past, the quiet strength that had allowed her to survive, and he worshipped all of it.
"Gabriel," Lily whispered, her heart pounding a frantic rhythm against her ribs. "I'm just a normal person. My life is small. Yours is... violent. It's dangerous."
"My life is entirely too dark for you," Gabriel agreed readily, his hand sliding to cup her jaw. "If you want to leave, I have a new identity, a passport, and ten million dollars waiting for you. You can walk out that door right now, and I will ensure no one ever finds you."
He leaned in closer, his dark eyes burning into her soul.
"But if you stay," he murmured, his voice thick with raw emotion, "you will never be small again. You will be my queen. And I will burn the world down every single day just to keep you warm."
Lily stared at him, the ultimate choice resting entirely in her hands.
She thought of her old life—the cramped apartment, the invisible catering jobs, the constant fear of men who thought they owned the world.
She looked at the dangerous, beautiful monster kneeling before her, offering her the keys to his kingdom.

Lily didn't say a word. She didn't have to. She reached forward, tangling her fingers in the collar of his black shirt, and pulled his lips down to hers.
Gabriel groaned, a deep, primal sound of surrender, as he crushed his mouth against hers. The kiss was desperate, consuming, and fueled by days of heavy, unspoken tension. His powerful arms wrapped around her waist, pulling her lush curves flush against his hard chest, holding her as if he would never let her go.
