The site for the new Foundation headquarters was located in a developing neighborhood, deliberately chosen to be accessible via public transit.
Daniel had designed the building himself.
It wasn't a glass tower.
It was a warm, welcoming structure utilizing natural light, secure courtyards, and soundproofed consultation rooms.
On a crisp Tuesday morning, Clara stood before a small crowd of local leaders and press to officially break ground.
Arthur stood beside her.
Margaret stood on her other side.
Daniel hovered near the back, talking with the construction foreman.
Clara stepped to the microphone.
“For decades, the Vance name has been associated with technological innovation,” she began.
The reporters raised their cameras.
“But technology only connects devices. It does not connect people. It does not heal communities.”
She gestured to the empty lot behind her.
“This building will not house servers. It will house hope.”
She announced the appointment of Sarah Lin as the new director.
She detailed the Foundation’s shift from passive donations to active, localized advocacy.
“We are no longer just writing checks,” Clara concluded. “We are opening doors.”
Arthur smiled proudly.
After the ceremony, a reporter approached Clara.
“Ms. Vance, this is a significant departure from your father’s legacy.”
Arthur stepped forward before Clara could answer.
“It is an evolution of it,” Arthur stated firmly. “And it is long overdue.”
The reporter blinked, surprised by the former chairman’s defense.
Clara linked her arm through Arthur’s.
“Thank you,” she whispered as they walked to the car.
“For what?”
“For evolving.”
