Chapter 6: Into the Delivery Room

Three weeks later, the relative peace of Ava’s hospital confinement shattered. In the dark hours of the morning, her monitors began to wail. Emergency lights flashed against the walls as a team of nurses rushed into her room.

"Her blood pressure is skyrocketing! Get the OB-GYN on the floor immediately!"

Ava gasped for air, her vision tunneling into darkness. The severe preeclampsia, exacerbated by months of psychological stress, had finally reached its boiling point. Her father rushed to her side, grabbing her hand with a desperation she had never seen in him before.

"Hold on, Ava," Arthur pleaded, his voice breaking. "Look at me. Stay with me."

The next few hours were a blur of cold steel, frantic medical jargon, and overwhelming terror. She was wheeled into the operating room, the bright lights overhead blinding her. As the doctors worked frantically to save both mother and child, Ava made a silent promise to the baby fighting inside her: I will not let him win. We survive this together.

Then, through the haze of pain and exhaustion, came the most beautiful sound she had ever heard. A sharp, loud, defiant cry echoed through the room.

The surgeon smiled beneath his mask, lifting a tiny, perfectly formed boy. "He’s a fighter, Ava. He’s here."
