Chapter 22 - The Café Meeting

The Plaza Café was bustling with businessmen and wealthy socialites.

At exactly noon, Valentina walked through the glass doors.

She wore a simple, professional beige coat, hiding the small microphone taped beneath her collar.

Diego sat in an unmarked surveillance van parked three blocks away, listening to the audio feed with a team of tactical agents.

Julian was already sitting at a corner table.

He stood up politely as Valentina approached.

"You are incredibly punctual," Julian smiled, pulling out her chair.

"My father taught me that time is the most valuable asset a person has," Valentina replied coldly, taking her seat.

Julian chuckled, sitting across from her.

He placed a thick leather briefcase on the table.

"Your father is a very smart man," Julian said. "But he is also very paranoid."

Valentina’s heart skipped a beat, but she maintained her composure.

"What do you mean?" she asked.

"There are currently four undercover security guards drinking coffee in this café," Julian said, casually sipping his water. "One by the entrance, two at the bar, and one sitting near the restrooms. Your father really doesn't trust me."

Inside the surveillance van, Diego swore loudly.

"Marcus, he spotted the detail," Diego growled over the radio. "Be ready to extract her."

"We are holding position, sir," Marcus replied.

"I am the heir to a multi-billion dollar empire," Valentina said to Julian, not breaking eye contact. "My father is protective. Can you blame him?"

"Not at all," Julian smiled.

He opened his briefcase and pulled out a stack of financial documents.

"Here are the corporate filings for Vanguard Investment Group," Julian said, sliding them across the table. "Everything is completely legitimate. Fully taxed, heavily audited, and ready to be transferred to your foundation."

Valentina took the papers.

She flipped through them quickly.

"Who is the primary shareholder?" Valentina asked.

"It's a blind trust," Julian lied perfectly.

"I need a name, Julian."

Julian leaned forward, his friendly smile suddenly vanishing.

His eyes turned dark and incredibly cold.

"The name doesn't matter, Valentina," Julian whispered. "What matters is what happens if you refuse the money."

"Is that a threat?" Valentina asked, her voice steady.

"It is a guarantee," Julian said. "If you do not accept this donation, my employer will release fabricated documents to the press showing that your father funded his empire by stealing from cartel accounts. We will destroy your foundation's reputation overnight. The orphans will get nothing."

Inside the van, Diego’s blood boiled.

"Extract her now!" Diego yelled into the radio.

Before Julian could say another word, two massive undercover guards grabbed him by the shoulders, pinning him to the chair.

Valentina stood up safely, grabbing the documents.

"You chose the wrong family to threaten, Julian," Valentina said coldly.
