Chapter 15 - The Paperwork of Treason

|

An hour after Pamela’s arrest, Lincoln and I sat inside Spencer Vance’s raided legal office alongside Detective Miller and several federal agents.

Spencer sat handcuffed to a chair in the center of the room, his expensive suit wrinkled, sweating profusely under the fluorescent lights as investigators seized his computers and filing cabinets.

On his primary desk lay the physical evidence of their elaborate fraud scheme: forged trust amendments, pre-drafted legal petitions for mental incompetence, and a power-of-attorney document bearing a forged copy of my signature, attempting to transfer ownership of the $7 million La Jolla beach house to La Jolla Blue Holdings LLC.

“You’re facing federal wire fraud, child endangerment, conspiracy to commit murder, and murder in the first degree, Spencer,” Detective Miller said, leaning over the desk and staring the trembling lawyer down. “The pharmacist gave you up. Pamela gave you up the second the cuffs touched her wrists.”

Spencer swallowed hard, his eyes darting frantically around the room until they landed on me.

“Gregory... listen to me,” Spencer stammered, his voice trembling. “Pamela is a sociopath! She was the one who came to me! She was the one who planned Beatrice’s death!”

I walked slowly over to where he sat, looking down at the man who had tried to steal my daughter’s life and future.

“Why Beatrice?” I asked, my voice deadly quiet. “She never harmed anyone. Why did you target her?”

Spencer squeezed his eyes shut, tears of self-pity leaking down his cheeks. “It was the property... Pamela found out about the La Jolla trust while working as an assistant at Beatrice’s family accounting firm four years ago. She realized how much the estate was worth. She targeted Beatrice first... then she targeted you.”

The horror of his words hung in the air. Pamela hadn't just stumbled into our lives—she had been stalking my family for nearly half a decade, waiting for the right moment to strike.
