Chapter 9

The atmosphere inside the Vance corporate boardroom was electric with a mixture of anxiety and profound relief. The long mahogany table, usually dominated by Julian’s aggressive posturing and toxic outbursts, was now centered around Karen. She sat at the head of the table, wearing a sharp, tailored navy blue suit, looking every inch the formidable executive her father had trained her to be.
"Thank you all for coming on such short notice," Karen began, her voice steady, clear, and commanding. She did not yell, she did not threaten; she simply commanded absolute respect through sheer competence.
"The transition is going to be incredibly difficult," Arthur Pendelton noted, reviewing the massive stack of financial documents in front of him. "Julian’s embezzlement went far deeper than we initially realized. He drained the international marketing budget to cover his personal gambling debts in Macau."
"We will freeze all non-essential marketing campaigns immediately," Karen ordered without hesitation. "We need to prioritize liquidity to ensure our lower-level employees do not miss a single paycheck. Julian treated the staff like disposable assets. Under my leadership, they are our highest priority."
The board members nodded in unanimous agreement, thoroughly relieved to have a rational adult at the helm after years of Julian's chaotic madness.
"What about the public relations fallout?" another board member asked nervously. "The press is already running stories about the federal raid. Our stock price took a five percent hit at the opening bell this morning."
"We do not hide," Karen stated firmly, looking around the room. "We issue a press release at noon today. We announce full, unhindered cooperation with the District Attorney's office and the federal investigators. We explicitly state that Julian Vance acted entirely alone in his fraudulent activities, and that he has been completely terminated from this institution."
"Transparency," Arthur smiled, leaning back in his heavy leather chair. "It's a bold strategy, Karen. Julian always preferred cover-ups and NDAs."
"Julian is a criminal," Karen replied, her eyes flashing with a fierce, unyielding light. "I am rebuilding my father's legacy. We will open our books, we will accept the temporary stock hit, and we will prove to the market that the toxic rot has been surgically removed. By the end of this quarter, the Vance firm will be stronger, cleaner, and far more profitable than Julian could have ever imagined."

"All in favor of Karen's strategic directive?" Arthur asked the room.
Every single hand at the mahogany table went up instantly.
