Chapter 21

|

The transition from a life of unimaginable luxury to the brutal, unforgiving reality of federal prison was a psychological shock that nearly broke Julian’s mind entirely. He was processed into a maximum-security facility in upstate New York, stripped of his name, and assigned a sterile, dehumanizing inmate number.

His first week was an absolute nightmare of sensory overload and constant, suffocating fear. He was assigned to a tiny, concrete cell with a massive, terrifying cellmate who completely ignored him, treating Julian like a minor annoyance rather than a fallen billionaire.

The man who once demanded private jets and Michelin-star meals was now forced to eat flavorless, processed slop off a plastic tray in a deafening, dangerous cafeteria.

Julian was assigned a menial labor detail. Every morning at 6:00 AM, the former CEO was handed a heavy, wet mop and ordered to aggressively scrub the long, dirty concrete corridors of the C-Block wing.

"You missed a spot, Vance," a burly corrections officer sneered, tapping his heavy baton against the metal bars. "Keep scrubbing. You got forty-four more years to figure out how to clean a floor properly."

Julian gripped the wooden handle of the mop, his hands covered in painful, raw blisters from the harsh chemicals. He looked down at the dirty, soapy water reflecting his gaunt, exhausted face.

He thought about the massive, pristine marble foyer of his former mansion. He thought about the expensive Italian suits, the crystal chandeliers, and the absolute power he used to wield with a simple flick of his wrist. It all felt like a distant, completely fabricated dream from another lifetime.

A loud bell rang, signaling the end of the shift. Julian leaned heavily against the mop handle, his body aching and his spirit entirely shattered. He had built an empire on lies, intimidation, and brutal greed, and the universe had finally forced him to pay the absolute, devastating price. He was nothing now. Just a number scrubbing a dirty floor until the end of his days.
