I didn't want to simply hoard my peace; I wanted to weaponize my survival to help others.
The anonymous donation I had made from the sale of Derek’s black SUV had provided crucial funding for a local domestic abuse shelter. But with the trust fund fully secured and my life stabilized, I decided to do much more.
I purchased a massive, abandoned commercial property on the outskirts of Cedar Ridge. I hired architects and contractors to completely renovate the space, transforming it into a state-of-the-art sanctuary for women and children fleeing domestic violence.
I named it The Grandmother's House.
It wasn't just a place to sleep. We provided free, on-site legal counsel, employing a team of fierce attorneys mentored directly by Naomi Chen. We offered psychological counseling, job placement assistance, and absolute physical security managed entirely by Elias and his vetted team of private contractors.
I walked the halls of the shelter, looking at the women who arrived with bruised faces and terrified eyes. I sat with them in the quiet rooms, holding their hands, and telling them my story. I told them about the freezing highway, the arrogant laughter, and the terrifying belief that I was powerless.
