Chapter 16 - The Dashcam Video

The lawyer tapped the screen. The high-definition video from Rosa’s dashcam sprang to life.

The angle perfectly captured the snowy shoulder of Interstate 89. On the screen, Derek’s black SUV jerked to a halt. The passenger door was shoved open. Derek marched around the hood of the car, his face twisted in a snarl. He grabbed my arm violently, dragging my heavily pregnant body out of the passenger seat. He shoved me roughly toward the freezing metal guardrail.

The audio, enhanced by Elias’s tech team, played with crystal clarity through the conference room speakers.

"Maybe the cold will fix your attitude," Derek’s voice hissed from the tablet. "Walk home."

Then, the video showed him getting back into the warm car and speeding away, leaving me stranded in the blizzard.

The silence in the conference room was absolute, deafening. Derek’s arrogant smirk instantly vanished, his face draining of all color. Vivian stared at the screen, her mouth hanging open in horror, realizing her precious boy was caught on tape committing a felony.

The cheap lawyer stared at the frozen frame of his client abandoning a pregnant woman in a storm. He slowly pushed his chair back, distancing himself physically from Derek.

"But wait, there's more," Naomi said smoothly. She tapped a button on her master tablet, switching the feed.

The screen now displayed the security footage from the luxury car dealership. It clearly showed me sitting at the financier’s desk, signing the checks and the title documents, while Derek stood behind me, laughing with a salesman.

"Yeah, she pays for it, but I deserve it," Derek joked on the video. "Perks of a rich wife."

"Theft of the vehicle is off the table," Naomi informed the pale lawyer. "As you can see, she is the sole purchaser."
