Chapter 6 - Hiring the Hound

Alejandro knew that throwing Valeria out was only the beginning. A woman like her, backed by massive family wealth and a bruised ego, would not simply vanish into the night. She would retaliate. He needed to know exactly what he was up against.

Later that afternoon, he met with Victor Vance, a private investigator known in the city’s elite circles as 'The Hound.' Victor was a former intelligence officer who specialized in making high-society problems disappear—or uncovering them.

They sat in Alejandro’s private study, the heavy oak doors locked tight.

"I need everything you can find on Valeria Montenegro," Alejandro ordered, pouring two glasses of scotch and handing one to Victor. "I want her bank records, her phone logs, her medical history. I want to know who she talks to, where she goes, and what she owes."

Victor took a sip, his sharp eyes scanning Alejandro's grim expression. "You're declaring war on one of the most powerful families in the country, Mr. Reyes. You realize her father can make life very difficult for your business?"

"I don't care," Alejandro said flatly. "She tried to poison Sofía. I have the security footage, but if I go to the police right now, her lawyers will bury it in endless litigation. They'll claim it was a misunderstanding, that the video is circumstantial. I need a motive. I need undeniable proof of her intent before I strike."

Victor nodded slowly, setting his glass down. "Attempted murder is messy. Usually, in these circles, it's about money. But Valeria is already a billionaire heiress. Why risk killing a child?"

"That's exactly what I am paying you to find out," Alejandro stated.

Meanwhile, outside the study, Lucía was keeping Sofía occupied in the playroom. She built a massive tower out of colorful wooden blocks, trying to maintain a sense of normalcy for the little girl. But every time the floorboards creaked, Lucía jumped. She couldn't shake the terrible feeling that the danger was far from over, and that the shadows in the mansion were growing longer.
