Chapter 15 - The Public Execution
The ballroom erupted in absolute chaos. Gasps, frantic whispers, and the rapid clicking of camera shutters filled the massive, vaulted room. Valeria stood frozen, the crimson silk of her gown suddenly looking like a profound admission of guilt.
"This is slander!" Valeria's father roared, his face turning a deep, dangerous shade of purple as he pushed his way through the crowd toward the podium. "Isabella, you have lost your mind! I will sue you for every dime your family owns!"
Alejandro stepped in front of his mother, completely blocking the older man's path. "You won't be suing anyone, Victorio. You'll be busy fighting federal indictments."
He reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a thick stack of documents—the bank routing numbers, the offshore wire transfers to the housekeeper, and the official confession signed by Maria just hours earlier. Alejandro threw the papers into the air, letting them scatter across the polished marble floor.
"It's all there," Alejandro shouted to the crowd. "The extortion, the debt, the wire fraud. She tried to frame an innocent woman today, but she failed. The police have the security footage, and they have the confession."
Valeria panicked. The carefully constructed mask of the high-society darling shattered entirely. She looked around at the faces of her peers—people who had kissed her cheek twenty minutes ago were now looking at her with absolute disgust and horror.
"He's lying!" Valeria shrieked, pointing desperately at Alejandro. "He's crazy! He's trying to ruin me because I found out he was sleeping with his maid!"
The desperate, pathetic lie hung in the air, landing flat. No one believed her.

Suddenly, the heavy glass doors at the back of the museum burst open. A dozen uniformed police officers, led by the lead detective from the precinct, marched into the gala.
"Valeria Montenegro," the detective announced, his voice echoing over a bullhorn. "You are under arrest for conspiracy to commit murder, evidence tampering, and extortion."
