Chapter 17 - The Birth

The grand ballroom erupted into a different kind of chaos.
“Clear the room!” Vincent roared, firing a single suppressed shot into the ceiling. “Everyone out! Now!”
The terrified guests scrambled frantically toward the front doors, eager to escape the madhouse.
Dominic didn't wait for the room to clear. He scooped Charlene up into his arms effortlessly, ignoring the agonizing pain in her back, and sprinted up the grand staircase.
“Dr. Harmon!” Dominic bellowed into his radio. “Get to the master suite immediately!”
He kicked the heavy oak doors of the master suite open, carrying her past the massive bed and directly into the hidden, beautifully prepared nursery they had stood in weeks ago.
He laid her gently on the plush center rug, stripping off his ruined tuxedo jacket and rolling up his sleeves.
“I’ve got you, my love,” Dominic whispered frantically, brushing the sweat-soaked hair from her forehead. “You are safe. We are home.”
Dr. Harmon rushed into the room carrying a heavy medical bag, followed closely by two private nurses. The nursery instantly transformed into a delivery room.
The pain was blinding, an all-consuming fire that threatened to pull Charlene under. But Dominic never let go of her hand. The ruthless mafia boss, the man who had just dismantled two empires and ruined a political dynasty with a single speech, knelt beside her on the floor, weeping openly as she screamed in agony.
“Push, Charlene! You are so strong,” Dominic urged, his voice cracking with profound emotion. “Bring her to me. Bring our daughter home.”
With one final, earth-shattering scream of effort, the room suddenly filled with the sharp, miraculous sound of a baby crying.
Dr. Harmon smiled, quickly wrapping the tiny, squalling infant in a sterile blanket.
“A healthy, beautiful baby girl, Mr. Hamilton,” the doctor announced, handing the bundle gently to Dominic.
Dominic took his daughter, his hands trembling violently. He stared down at the tiny, red, screaming face, completely overwhelmed by a love so vast it eclipsed the entire world he had built. He carefully laid the baby on Charlene’s chest.
Charlene wept, kissing the top of her daughter's head, completely exhausted but utterly victorious.

“We did it,” she whispered, looking up at her husband.
“We did it,” Dominic promised, kissing her deeply, tasting her tears.
