Chapter 16 - The Retaliation

The announcement of Petrov’s death sent a shockwave of sheer terror through the remaining guests. The Russian syndicate had been a towering force in Chicago, and Dominic had eradicated them while sipping champagne in his own ballroom.
“As for you, Senator,” Dominic said, his eyes locking onto the corrupt politician. “Vincent has just forwarded a highly encrypted dossier to the FBI’s public corruption unit. It contains every bribe, every illegal kickback, and every backdoor deal you have orchestrated for the last fifteen years.”
Senator Garcia collapsed into a nearby chair, his political dynasty instantly, permanently destroyed.
Dominic finally turned his full, terrifying attention back to Bethany.
She was trembling violently, backing away from him, her red Louboutins slipping slightly on the marble floor.
“You tormented my wife for eight months,” Dominic whispered, taking a slow, predatory step toward her. “You insulted her. You tripped her. You treated the mother of my child like absolute garbage. And my wife endured it all, in silence, to protect my empire.”
He stopped inches away from her.
“You are going to leave my house tonight, Bethany,” Dominic stated coldly. “You will leave with nothing but the dress on your back. Your father’s accounts are frozen. Your trust fund is seized. You are completely, utterly bankrupt.”
“Please, Dominic,” Bethany sobbed, her arrogant pride completely shattered, dropping to her knees on the marble floor. “Please, I’ll do anything. I have nowhere to go.”
“I suggest you start walking,” Dominic replied without a shred of mercy. “Because if you are still on my property in five minutes, I will let my hounds escort you out.”
He turned his back on her weeping form, walking back to Charlene.
The adrenaline was crashing hard. Charlene was gripping the edge of the staircase, her face entirely pale, sweat beading on her forehead. A sharp, agonized cry escaped her lips as another massive contraction ripped through her body, dropping her to her knees.
“Charlene!” Dominic yelled, all the cold composure vanishing in a microsecond.

He dropped to his knees beside her, gathering her fiercely into his arms.
“My water broke,” Charlene gasped, clutching his tuxedo jacket, looking up at him with wide, terrified eyes. “The baby is coming. Right now.”
