Chapter 9 - Stripped of Power

The silence in the Grand Aurelia Ballroom was total. Even the waiters stopped moving, holding silver trays in place as they watched the Chairwoman dismantle her husband's corporate illusion piece by piece.
“Tonight,” Elowen continued, her tone shifting from personal reflection back to pure, executive command, “Meridian Heritage Capital was prepared to execute a $120 million equity contract with Prescott Urban Development.”
Weston abruptly pushed his chair back, the heavy wooden legs scraping loudly against the polished floor. He stood up, refusing to stay seated any longer.
“Elowen!” Weston yelled, his voice cracking with desperation, drawing shocked looks from surrounding tables. “Whatever personal issues we have, we can discuss them at home! Private matters belong in private!”
Elowen looked down at him from the elevated stage, her face completely unreadable.
“Would you have offered me a private discussion if you knew who I was when I was picking up broken glass off your kitchen floor this afternoon, Weston?” she asked quietly.
The quiet question struck the room like a lightning bolt.
Weston stood frozen, his mouth open, unable to produce a single word of defense. He looked around the room and saw the looks of absolute disgust from people he had tried so hard to impress—board members, politicians, media moguls.
Vanessa quietly picked up her silver clutch and slowly slid out of her seat, moving away from Weston as if his bankruptcy were contagious.
Elowen turned back to the audience.
“The $120 million investment will not proceed,” she announced.
Weston took a staggering step back, his face completely bloodless. “Elowen... you’re destroying my company...”
“No,” Elowen corrected instantly, her voice firm. “I am protecting it. There are four hundred hard-working employees at Prescott Urban Development. Plumbers, architects, administrative staff, and site workers. They will not lose their livelihoods because of one man’s unchecked arrogance.”
The crowd began to nod in agreement, a soft rumble of approval building in the back rows.
“Meridian Heritage Capital will restructure the investment package,” Elowen declared. “The $120 million will be placed into an independent trust, conditional upon complete corporate restructuring. Effective immediately, Meridian will enforce its contractual rights as primary debt holder to mandate an independent board of directors, complete financial oversight, and the immediate removal of executive authority from the founder.”
Weston’s eyes widened in horror. “You... you’re taking my company away from me?”
Elowen looked at him one last time, her expression filled with a quiet, powerful sadness.
“I’m not taking anything from you, Weston,” she whispered into the mic. “I’m simply refusing to keep saving you from yourself.”

She stepped back from the podium, handed the microphone back to Adrian Vale, and turned smoothly toward the side exit.
The entire ballroom erupted into a deafening roar of applause as Chairwoman Rowan walked off the stage, leaving her husband standing alone under the harsh glare of the room's judging eyes.
