Chapter 6 - The Grand Entrance

|
Every head in the ballroom turned toward the grand staircase.
At Table One, Weston turned in his seat, eager to catch his first glimpse of the mysterious billionaire who held the key to his empire's future.
The double doors swung open completely, and a tall figure stepped into the brilliant beam of the spotlight.
A collective gasp rippled across the nearest tables.
She wore an ethereal, floor-length midnight-blue silk gown that caught the golden light with every subtle movement. Her dark hair was styled into an elegant, high-fashion retro wave, cascading flawlessly over her bare shoulders. Long, pear-cut diamond earrings caught the light, sparkling with breathtaking brilliance. She held her head high, moving with an effortless, aristocratic grace that commanded absolute silence from the six hundred people in the room.
Weston stared at the woman on the balcony.
At first, his brain completely failed to process what his eyes were seeing. The silhouette was familiar, yet entirely foreign.
She took her first step down the velvet-carpeted stairs.
The light hit her face fully.
Weston’s smile froze. The color drained from his face so fast it looked as if he had seen a ghost.
Next to him, Vanessa stopped breathing entirely, her glass of champagne hovering two inches from her red lips.
Claudia leaned forward, her heavy silver glasses slipping down her nose. “What... who is that?” Claudia stuttered, her voice shaking with confusion. “Weston... isn't that...?”
Weston couldn't speak. His throat was completely paralyzed.
It was Elowen.
Not the tired, quiet woman in cotton pants who had been wiping down his counters three hours ago.
Not the timid wife who humbly accepted his mother’s daily insults.
This was a queen walking among commoners.
Every step she took down the grand staircase felt like a physical hammer blow to Weston’s chest. Her posture was flawless. Her face was serene, cold, and entirely unbothered by the hundreds of high-profile eyes locked onto her.
Adrian Vale stepped down from the stage and walked directly to the foot of the staircase. As Elowen reached the final step, the senior Managing Director of the most powerful private equity firm in the state bowed his head respectfully and extended his hand to her.
“Welcome, Chairwoman Rowan,” Adrian said loudly enough for the front rows to hear.
The room erupted into formal, thunderous applause.
Weston felt his stomach drop into a dark, bottomless abyss. The room spun. The glittering crystal chandeliers suddenly felt blindingly bright.
Chairwoman Rowan.
Elowen Rowan Prescott.
His mind frantically rewound through eight years of marriage—every dismissed conversation, every arrogant lecture he had given her about "wealth," every time he told her she wasn't "polished enough" for his world.
Elowen didn't look at the crowd as she took the microphone from Adrian. She walked slowly up the small wooden steps of the main stage, her midnight-blue gown trailing gracefully behind her.
She turned to face the audience, her gaze sweeping calmly over the sea of dark tuxedos and sparkling dresses.
Finally, her clear, icy blue eyes locked directly onto Table One.

Directly onto Weston.
“Good evening, ladies and gentlemen,” her voice echoed crystal-clear through the state-of-the-art sound system. “My name is Elowen Rowan.”
