Chapter 18 - THE NIGHT THE SERVERS WENT DARK
At 11:17 p.m., every computer inside Rowan Meridian headquarters shut down.
Production schedules vanished. Payment systems froze. Factory access cards stopped working.
Someone had entered the building’s secure server room using Arthur Vale’s old credentials.
The intruder deleted financial records connected to Aster Vale and attempted to destroy the employee ownership database.
Mara activated the emergency recovery system.
Nothing happened.
“The backups were corrupted last month,” she said.
Claire realized the sabotage had begun long before the warehouse fire.
Victor was erasing the evidence and preparing to blame her for the company’s collapse.
Employees gathered outside the headquarters while technicians worked through the night. Rumors spread that salaries would not be paid and factories would close.
Claire went outside to speak to them.
“I cannot promise that tomorrow will be easy,” she said. “But no one will lose a paycheck because powerful people believe fear makes us obedient.”
A maintenance supervisor named Luis stepped forward.
“During the ownership transition, we created an independent employee archive.”
Mara stared at him.
“Where?”
“In the old training center. It isn’t connected to the corporate network.”
The archive contained payroll records, board resolutions and copies of every ownership transaction.
The employee trust had saved the evidence Victor tried to destroy.
At dawn, security footage revealed the intruder.
It was Victor’s chief legal officer.
Police arrested him at the airport carrying a passport, cash and a copy of the missing trust page.
The page identified the holder of the deciding share.
It was not Claire.
It belonged to a woman named Elise Rowan.
