Chapter 18 - The Rose Garden Secret

|
Two days later, during a routine security sweep of the estate grounds, Luca found a hidden wooden box buried beneath the soil of the old rose garden.
He brought it directly to Beatrice’s private study on the fourth floor.
“It belonged to Evelyn,” Luca said, setting the rusted iron box on her desk. “She buried it two months before the fake bankruptcy.”
Beatrice pulled open the rusted latch. Inside were three small leather journals, a collection of encrypted keys, and a photograph from twenty years ago.
Beatrice picked up the photograph.
It showed a young Evelyn standing beside a powerful man with grey hair and a scar across his left eyebrow—Adrian Rossi. But it was the writing on the back of the photo that made Beatrice’s breath catch in her throat.
To my beloved daughter, Evelyn. Take what is ours.
Beatrice sat back in her chair, her mind racing through the connections. Evelyn wasn't just a greedy socialite who had fallen for Rossi’s money.
