Chapter 11 - The Fall of Kensington

|

Evelyn backed away until her spine hit the heavy oak bookshelves. Her glamorous veneer was entirely gone, replaced by the wild, desperate terror of a trapped animal.

“Vincenzo!” Evelyn screamed toward the ceiling speaker. “Please! He forced me! Adrian threatened my family! He said he’d ruin my father if I didn't help him!”

The heavy double doors at the front of the mansion swung open.

Vincenzo walked down the grand corridor, his boots striking the marble with measured, heavy beats. He stepped into the library, his dark coat damp with rain, his expression unreadable.

He walked over to the silver tray Beatrice held, picked up the glass vial, and looked at Evelyn.

“Your father didn't get threatened, Evelyn,” Vincenzo said softly. “Your father was paid two million dollars by Rossi last Tuesday to settle his gambling debts in Macau. I have the wire receipts.”

Evelyn sank to her knees on the ruined carpet, weeping hysterically. “What are you going to do to me?”

Vincenzo looked down at her with pure disgust.

“I’m not going to touch you,” Vincenzo said. “The federal agents waiting outside will do that. Wire fraud, attempted murder, and conspiracy to commit treason carry a minimum of thirty years in federal prison.”

He turned his back on her, signaling to Luca.

“Take her out,” Vincenzo ordered. “And make sure the press gets a good picture of her in handcuffs.”
