Chapter 14 - The Shadow Empire

Three weeks later.
The morning sun reflected off the floor-to-ceiling glass of the Costa Tower in downtown Chicago.
Beatrice stood at the window of her new executive office on the fiftieth floor, wearing a tailored navy suit that fit her perfectly. Her dark hair was swept up into an elegant bun, and a thin gold watch—a gift from Vincenzo—glinted on her wrist.
She was no longer invisible.
When executives and syndicate bosses walked down the hall, they bowed their heads to her. They knew that behind Vincenzo Costa sat a young woman whose sharp eye for detail had dismantled the Rossi family in a single night.
The heavy door to her office opened. Luca walked in, carrying a black leather binder.
“The audit report on the Kensington estate is complete, Miss Beatrice,” Luca said respectfully, setting the binder on her glass desk. “Evelyn’s father tried to hide three offshore accounts in the Cayman Islands, just as you predicted.”
“Did you freeze them?” Beatrice asked, turning around from the window.
“Vincenzo signed the seizure orders twenty minutes ago,” Luca smiled. “The Kensington family is officially broke.”

Beatrice nodded, feeling a quiet sense of justice settle in her chest.
Her phone buzzed on the desk. A message from Vincenzo: Come to my office. We have a guest.
