Chapter 19 - The Syndicate's New King and Queen

|

A month later, the Beluchcci tower was quiet. The Romano family had been entirely dismantled, their assets seized by the feds or quietly absorbed by Damian’s legitimate shell companies.

Damian had successfully purged the old blood from the city’s underworld. He was the undisputed king of New York, but he ruled a completely modernized, corporate empire. The violence was gone, replaced by ruthless boardroom takeovers.

Norah sat at her desk outside his office. She was wearing a tailored navy suit, but her tortoiseshell glasses were gone, replaced by contacts. She was no longer just a secretary. She was officially the Vice President of the Beluchcci Group.

The intercom buzzed. "Norah, can you come in here?"

She picked up her tablet and walked into the grand office. Damian was standing by the window, looking out over the city he owned. He turned around, his dark eyes locking onto hers. The tension between them, forged in fire and blood, had only grown stronger in the peace.

"You need to sign the acquisition papers for the Romano docks," she said, handing him the tablet.

Damian ignored the tablet. He stepped closer, invading her personal space. "I don't want to talk about the docks."

Norah’s breath hitched. "What do you want to talk about?"

"You," Damian murmured, reaching out to trace the line of her jaw. "You saved my life, my empire, and my legacy. You are a Beluchcci by blood, but you are something entirely different by nature."

"I'm just doing my job, Mr. Beluchcci."

"Stop calling me that," he whispered, leaning down until their lips were a breath apart. "Call me Damian."

"Damian," she breathed.

He closed the distance, kissing her with a fierce, possessive hunger. Norah dropped the tablet, her hands tangling in his dark hair, pulling him closer. It was a kiss that sealed a partnership born in the shadows, a promise that they ruled this city together.
