Chapter 15 - Return to the Tower

It was 2:45 AM when the farmer dropped Norah a few blocks away from the Beluchcci Group headquarters. The towering skyscraper dominated the financial district, its glass facade reflecting the city lights.
Norah moved through the shadows, avoiding the main streets. She slipped into the subway station beneath the building, hopping the turnstile and walking down the dark, abandoned maintenance tracks.
She checked her watch. 2:58 AM.
Two minutes until the scheduled power grid maintenance.
She found the heavy steel door that connected the subway tunnels to the building's sub-basement. She waited in the dark, her heart hammering a cold, steady rhythm.
At exactly 3:00 AM, the city block went entirely black.
The magnetic lock on the steel door clicked, the power momentarily cut before the backup generators could engage. Norah yanked the door open and slipped inside, the heavy metal shutting behind her just as the emergency red lights flickered on.
She was in.
She moved silently through the corridors, heading straight for the archive room. There were two Romano guards standing outside the door, smoking cigarettes and complaining about the night shift.
Norah gripped the compact pistol Damian had given her. She knew she couldn't take them both in a firefight. She needed a distraction.
She spotted a fire alarm pull station on the wall. She waited until one guard turned his back to throw his cigarette away, then she yanked the lever.
The shrieking alarm echoed through the basement. Both guards jumped, their weapons raised, moving down the hall toward the noise.

Norah slipped behind them, sliding her keycard—still active on the emergency grid—into the archive door. It clicked open. She stepped inside the freezing room, locking it behind her.
She was alone with the safe.
