Chapter 12 - Chapter 12 - TRUTH ON THE SCREEN

|

The study was suffocatingly quiet.

Marcus laid his wet son wrapped in a dry wool blanket onto the leather sofa. Elena sat on the far edge of the couch, holding a warm towel against her bruised cheek, her wet uniform leaving a dark stain on the upholstery.

Victoria stood near the door, her arms folded tightly over her dry emerald gown. Her foot tapped nervously against the hardwood floor.

Marcus plugged the micro SD card into his laptop. The screen flickered to life. A media player popped up, displaying a single video file timestamped just fifteen minutes earlier.

"Let's see what happened at the pool," Marcus said. His voice was terrifyingly calm.

He hit play.

The high-definition video filled the screen. The night pool area appeared crystal clear. In the footage, Victoria stood alone beside the stroller. There was no maid nearby. No confusion. No struggle.

On the screen, Victoria looked directly toward the mansion doors. She checked her surroundings. Then, a cold, ruthless smile spread across her face.

She placed her hands on the dark gray stroller handle and shoved it with deliberate, deadly force into the deep end of the pool.

Marcus gasped, a sharp, choked sound escaping his throat.

The video continued. The stroller sank. Seconds later, Elena appeared on the screen, sprinting at full speed. Without a second of hesitation, without pausing to take off her shoes, Elena launched herself headfirst into the dark water to save the infant.

The video paused.

Marcus sat frozen behind his desk. The room felt as cold as ice. He slowly looked up from the glowing laptop screen. His eyes moved from the laptop, past the quiet maid, and landed directly on Victoria.

"You pushed him," Marcus whispered, the realization shattering his core. "You tried to murder my boy."
