Chapter 11 - Chapter 11 - THE SD CARD

Marcus took three long strides toward the green hedge. His body was stiff with tension, his knuckles white as he held his crying son against his chest.
Victoria rushed after him, her metallic heels clicking violently on the limestone. "Marcus, stop! Don't look at that! It’s just an old landscaping sensor! You’re wasting time while the woman who tried to drown your son is standing right there!"
Marcus didn't listen. He reached deep into the dense leaves, his broad hand brushing against wet branches until his fingers touched cold, smooth plastic. He unlatched the weather-resistant casing with a sharp snap.
Inside sat a small, black security camera. A tiny micro SD card glowed faintly under the status light.
"It's a high-definition tactical camera," Marcus whispered, his voice dangerously low. "Synced to the estate’s secondary server."
Victoria’s breath hitched. Her face went entirely drained of color. "Marcus... listen to me..."
"Shut up, Victoria," Marcus growled without looking at her.
He pinched the small memory card between his fingers and popped it out of the slot. He held it in the palm of his hand as if it were a loaded weapon.
Behind them, Elena remained on her knees by the pool. Her navy maid uniform was plastered to her shivering frame, her left cheek swollen red where his palm had struck her. She didn't say a word. She didn't need to. Her eyes stayed locked on the tiny black card in Marcus's hand.
Marcus turned slowly to face both women. The baby’s whimpers were softening, replaced by warm exhaustion against his father's shoulder.
"We are going inside," Marcus commanded, his voice shaking with suppressed rage. "To the study. Right now."
Victoria took a step back, her eyes darting toward the dark estate gates. "Marcus, I don't feel well. I think I should go home—"

"If you take one step off this patio," Marcus interrupted, his eyes burning into hers, "my security team will tackle you to the stone."
