Chapter 13 - The Traitor Revealed

The sheer violence radiating from Luca was terrifying and mesmerizing all at once. He held Marco by the throat, pinning him against the wall while the traitor bled onto the expensive carpet.
"Boss, please!" Marco choked out, his face turning a sickening shade of purple. "It was the Romanos! They threatened my family!"
"You lie," Luca hissed, his voice dropping to a lethal whisper. "I know about the offshore accounts, Marco. I’ve known for three days. I was just waiting to see how far you would go. Targeting Mia was your final mistake."
Luca didn't hesitate. He struck Marco across the face with the heavy grip of his pistol, knocking the massive man completely unconscious. The traitor slumped to the floor like a ragdoll.
The room fell eerily silent, save for the heavy sound of Luca’s breathing. He holstered his weapon and turned toward me. The murderous rage in his eyes vanished the second he looked at my trembling form.
He crossed the room in two strides and pulled me into his arms.
I collapsed against his broad chest, burying my face in his tailored suit, my hands gripping his jacket like a lifeline. He wrapped his arms around me fiercely, resting his chin on top of my head.
"I'm sorry," he murmured into my hair, his voice thick with emotion. "I should never have left you alone. I thought the house was secure."

"I found the files," I sobbed quietly, the adrenaline finally crashing. "He was stealing millions."
"I know," Luca said gently, pulling back to look at my face. He wiped a tear from my cheek with his thumb. "You are incredibly brave, Mia. But the war is escalating. They tried to kill you tonight. I need to send a message to the entire city that you are untouchable."
