Chapter 8 - The Paper Trap

Arthur Pendelton’s face flushed bright red. "What on earth are you talking about, Ethan? That’s a absurd allegation!"

"Is it?" David Vance stepped up beside me, pulling a thick black leather folder from his leather briefcase and laying it flat on the high-top glass table right beside Nolan’s scotch.

"Mr. Pendelton," David said, his voice echoing with absolute authority. "Ten minutes ago, we secured hard copies of wire transfers routed from Titan Holdings' offshore subsidiary in Grand Cayman directly to a shell entity registered under Nolan Pierce’s personal trust."

Nolan’s face drained of every drop of color. He looked down at the documents on the table as if they were venomous snakes.

"This... this is ridiculous," Nolan stammered, his confident demeanor shattering like thin ice. "These are fake! Fabricated by a desperate man trying to save his reputation!"

"They were retrieved from your penthouse suite trash bag twenty minutes ago, Nolan," Maya said, stepping up on my left, her arms crossed, her eyes blazing with fury. "Along with your handwritten notes detailing how you altered the internal audit files before sending them to the SEC."

Marcus Thorne, the representative from Titan Holdings, quietly set his champagne glass down and began taking a step backward off the platform.

"Where are you going, Marcus?" I asked, turning my eyes on him. "Don't you want to stay for the announcement?"

"I... I have an urgent call to make," Thorne muttered, looking terrified.

"Don't bother," David Vance smiled coldly. "The FBI’s financial crimes unit was alerted thirty minutes ago. Federal agents are already waiting in the hotel lobby."
