Chapter 20 - THE THRESHOLD OF FOREVER|

Midnight arrived with a heavy thunderstorm over the Alura estate.
Lightning flashed across the dark mountains, casting long, sharp shadows through the floor-to-ceiling glass of the grand living room.
Elena stood out on the covered stone balcony, the freezing rain misting against her skin.
In her left hand, she held the encrypted titanium drive—AETHELRED—which she had pulled from his safe two hours ago. It was heavy, cold, and contained enough dark data to destroy Adrien Russo's empire forever.
In her right hand, she held the rose gold ring set with the glowing emerald.
Down at the end of the long driveway, a sleek black Maybach pulled through the wrought-iron gates, its headlights cutting through the wet darkness.
The heavy oak doors of the house clicked open downstairs. Slow, heavy footsteps echoed up the grand marble staircase.
Adrien stepped onto the balcony.
He didn't wear his coat. His white shirt was unbuttoned at the collar, soaked slightly from the rain. He stopped five feet away from her, looking at her hands.
He saw the flash drive. He saw the ring.
He didn't pull a weapon. He didn't call his guards. He simply stood in the storm, his silver eyes locking onto hers with absolute, terrifying surrender.
"The federal task force has the perimeter surrounded down at the main road, don't they?" Adrien asked softly, his voice barely carrying over the thunder.
Elena didn't answer. Her hazel eyes were filled with tears, her chest heaving as the wind whipped her hair across her face.
"You have the key to my life in your hand, Elena," Adrien whispered, taking a single step toward her, extending his open palm into the rain between them.
"You can hand me over to the shadows... or you can step into them with me."
A siren wailed faintly in the distance, cutting through the roar of the storm.
May you like
Elena looked down at the titanium drive in her left hand, then looked at the emerald ring in her right.
She took a slow breath, lifted her head, and stepped toward the edge.
