Chapter 11 - THE DEBT PAID|

By sunrise, the city felt different.
The morning news broadcast played silently on the wall-mounted television in Elena’s recovery suite. The anchor spoke with hushed urgency about a massive, coordinated "firestorm" that had destroyed four warehouses and three private clubs owned by the Moretti family overnight. Sergio Moretti was reported missing.
Adrien walked into the suite carrying a silver tray with hot tea and toast. He wore a fresh black suit, appearing completely pristine, as if he hadn't spent the night orchestrating the complete annihilation of a rival crime family.
"You should be resting," Elena said quietly, sitting up against her pillows.
"I rest when my home is secure," Adrien replied, setting the tray across her lap.
He pulled a thick leather folder from under his arm and laid it beside her tea.
"What is this?" she asked.
"Your complete freedom," Adrien said simply.
Elena opened the folder. Inside were official debt discharge papers for her tuition loans, her parents' lingering medical bills, and her brother's accounts. Attached to the back was a deed to a luxury apartment in Manhattan, registered entirely in her name, along with a black bank card.
"Tommy is safe in Lisbon," Adrien explained, leaning against the bedpost. "Your debts are paid. The Morettis are gone. You owe me nothing."
Elena stared at the legal papers, her throat tightening. This was everything she had dreamed of for three years. Total financial freedom. Safety. An escape from poverty.
"Are you kicking me out?" she asked, her voice trembling slightly.
Adrien walked over to the window, looking out at the foggy valley.
"You took a bullet for me, Elena," he said softly. "I cannot keep you here under duress. If you want to leave, the car is downstairs. You can start your life."
Elena looked down at the papers, then looked at the back of the broad-shouldered man standing by the glass. The monster who had saved her brother, held her hand through the pain, and destroyed an empire to protect her.

"And if I don't want to leave?" she asked quietly.
Adrien turned around slowly, his silver eyes burning through the morning haze.
