Chapter 13 - THE ORIGIN OF OBSESSION|

"You shouldn't be in here, Elena."

Adrien’s deep voice shattered the silence of the hidden room.

Elena spun around, dropping the photos onto the desk. Adrien stood in the doorway, wearing his dark trench coat, rain dripping from his shoulders. He had returned early.

"What is this, Adrien?" Elena shouted, her voice shaking with rage and betrayal. "You've been stalking me for three years?! Before Tommy’s debt? Before everything?!"

Adrien walked slowly into the room, his eyes dark and unreadable.

"I wasn't stalking you," he said quietly. "I was protecting you."

"Protecting me from what?!"

"From my father's mistakes," Adrien confessed, stopping three feet from her.

Elena blinked, her chest heaving. "What are you talking about?"

"Your father, Arthur Ellis, wasn't just a high school accountant, Elena," Adrien explained, his voice low and heavy. "Twenty years ago, he was the chief financial officer for my father's legitimate shipping lines. When my father was assassinated by rival cartels, your father took the master ledger—the ledger that contained every name, every bribe, every piece of evidence needed to put my family's enemies away."

Elena stared at him, her mouth open in disbelief. "My father?"

"Your father risked his life to hand that ledger to federal prosecutors," Adrien continued, stepping closer. "He saved my family's legacy. But before he died in that car crash three years ago, he called me."

Adrien reached into his pocket and pulled out an old, faded silver pocket watch—the exact watch Elena remembered her father wearing every Sunday.

"He knew his brakes had been tampered with," Adrien whispered. "He asked me to make one promise: protect his daughter. Ensure she survives, no matter what it takes."

Tears welled in Elena’s eyes as she looked at her father's watch.

"So Tommy’s debt..." she stammered.

"Was real," Adrien admitted. "Tommy got himself into trouble, but I used it as an excuse to bring you into my world—where I could surround you with my own men, where no one could ever hurt you again."

"You lied to me," she wept.

"I gave you a choice to leave two weeks ago," Adrien reminded her gently, reaching out to touch her tear-stained cheek. "And you stayed."
