Chapter 24 - The Driver's RestI eventually moved to the capital to be closer to Sofia, but I never lost my roots.

I took a job at the Center, officially managing the logistics and transport for the witnesses and clients who needed safe passage. I was back behind the wheel, driving a modest, reliable van with the Center's logo on the side.

One rainy evening, I was driving a young mother and her child to a safe house. She looked terrified, constantly checking the rearview mirror.

"Are we safe?" she asked, her voice trembling.

I looked at her in the mirror. I remembered the nights I had driven the De la Vegas, suppressing my rage, hiding my true face. I remembered the cold, dark world I used to live in.

I offered the young mother a warm, gentle smile.

"You are completely safe," I told her, my voice steady and calm. "Nobody can hurt you anymore. We are watching over you."

The mother exhaled, her shoulders relaxing as she pulled her child closer.

As I drove through the wet, glowing streets of the capital, I realized that the rage that had fueled me for so long was entirely gone. In its place was a profound, enduring peace. The ghosts of the past had finally been laid to rest.
