Chapter 15 - The New Horizon

|

I slipped my phone back into my pocket and took a long, deep breath of the fresh ocean air.

For six years, the Mercer family had mistaken my quiet nature for weakness, my patience for submission, and my love for blindness.

They had learned too late that silence can also mean someone is quietly collecting evidence, measuring the foundation, and waiting for the right moment to pull the entire rotten house down.

I turned around and began walking back along the shoreline toward my new home—a stunning, sunlit cliffside bungalow overlooking the ocean that I had bought with my own hard-earned money.

My stride was strong, steady, and completely unhurried.

No one was standing behind me telling me where I was allowed to go. No one was standing over me demanding that I sign away my worth.

My life, my future, and my voice belonged entirely to me.

I kept walking, listening to the gentle rhythm of the waves crashing against the rocks below, feeling the cool sand beneath my feet, entirely at peace in the quiet strength of my own skin.
