Chapter 10 - The Ultimate Betrayal

I couldn't see the screen from where I stood, but I didn't need to. The collective gasp from the guests sitting near the head table told me everything I needed to know.
On Daniel’s phone was a crystal-clear, high-definition photograph of Claire. She was in a dimly lit hotel room, wearing the white silk robe she had posted on Instagram three nights before the wedding.
She was passionately kissing a man. Her arms were wrapped tightly around his neck, their bodies pressed together in an undeniable, intimate embrace.
But the man in the photo wasn't a stranger. And it certainly wasn't Daniel.
It was Daniel’s father.
Richard, the wealthy, married patriarch of the groom’s family, who was currently sitting at Table 1 with his wife, completely unaware that his secret had just been broadcast to his son.
“Daniel, wait!” Claire shrieked, tears instantly ruining her expensive bridal makeup. “It’s a fake! It’s Photoshop! I swear to God!”
“Shut up!” Daniel roared, his voice booming through the microphone that my father had left turned on.
The entire ballroom erupted into absolute chaos. Daniel’s mother screamed, standing up and slapping her husband across the face so hard it echoed. Richard tried to grab his wife, but Daniel’s groomsmen stepped in, violently shoving the older man backward.
“You slept with my father?!” Daniel screamed at Claire, throwing his phone at the wall. “Three days before our wedding?!”
My parents watched in absolute horror as their golden child, the perfect daughter they had always compared me to, was exposed as a homewrecking fraud in front of Boston’s most elite families.
Adrian pulled me slightly closer to his side, shielding me from the escalating chaos.

He leaned his head down, his lips brushing against my ear.
“And that,” Adrian whispered, his voice dark and thrilling, “isn't even the secret I came here to reveal.”
