Chapter 10 - The First Dance

The opening chords of Can't Help Falling in Love echoed through the cavernous hall. Liam led me to the center of the polished marble dance floor. Around us, the world seemed to blur, reducing the hundreds of guests to mere background noise.
He wrapped his strong arms around my waist, lifting me effortlessly into the air for a brief, dizzying moment that made me let out a genuine, bubbling laugh. When my feet touched the floor again, his expression grew fiercely protective.
"I had Marcus lock down all the perimeter doors,"
Liam murmured, his deep blue eyes reflecting only my image.

I rested my head against his chest, closing my eyes and letting the steady, rhythmic beating of his heart soothe away the last remnants of my anxiety. I had chosen a man who loved me with a fierce, unapologetic devotion, and I was finally safe.
