Chapter 15

The ending took more than a year.

Grant and Isabella’s separation became permanent.

Their divorce process addressed custody, finances, property and business interests separately.

Grant retained supervised contact with Noah at first, with later arrangements depending on professional recommendations and his compliance with court requirements.

The process was slow.

Isabella preferred slow to dramatic.

Vanessa lost her Lombardi Atelier role and faced civil claims related to confidential design material and disputed payments.

The outside boutique settled portions of the commercial dispute without admitting every allegation.

Some designs remained contested.

Some were abandoned entirely.

Isabella eventually stopped fighting over two of them.

“I don't want to spend another year proving a necklace came from my head.”

Massimo understood.

Not every loss needed to become a war.

Grant also faced consequences for his treatment of Isabella.

No single bruise created the whole case.

Medical documentation, witness accounts, communications, and Isabella’s statements built it gradually.

Massimo’s own assault at the jewelry preview was reviewed separately.

He accepted a misdemeanor resolution, financial penalties, and anger-management requirements rather than using influence to erase the incident.

He hated the classes.

Noah thought it was hilarious that Grandpa had homework.

That helped.

Isabella returned to design work.

But not full-time at Lombardi Atelier.

She created a smaller independent studio.

Massimo offered money.

She accepted some.

With written terms.

He laughed when she handed him the agreement.

Then signed it without changing a word.

Noah’s name became the last unresolved issue.

Legally, he was still Noah Lombardi.

Grant wanted Hale included.

Isabella no longer wanted to make the decision during conflict.

So she left it alone.

One spring afternoon, Noah sat at a worktable inside Isabella’s new studio making another paper flower.

Massimo watched from across the room.

“Who’s that one for?”

Noah shrugged.

“Maybe Mom.”

He turned the flower over and wrote his name on the back.

NOAH.

Nothing else.

Massimo noticed.

So did Isabella.

Neither corrected him.

Later, Noah carried the flower to the window and asked:

“Mom, when I’m big, can I pick my own last name?”

Isabella smiled.

“Yes.”

He looked toward Massimo.

“Even if Grandpa doesn't like it?”

Massimo felt the old instinct rise.

Lombardi was history.

Family.

Power.

His father’s name.

His daughter’s name.

His grandson’s name.

Then he remembered how many people in Noah’s life had tried to decide who he belonged to.

Massimo leaned back.

“Even then.”

Noah nodded as though the answer were obvious.

He returned to his flower.

Isabella looked toward her father.

For years Massimo had believed protecting family meant making sure nobody could take anything from them.

May you like

Now he understood another version.

Sometimes protecting someone meant refusing to decide what they had to keep.
