Chapter 6 - The Diamond Shield

|

The next morning, the penthouse was transformed into a chaotic war room. Lawyers in sharp suits paced the living area, drafting prenuptial agreements and asset protections.

Liya sat at the massive glass dining table, completely overwhelmed. She signed paper after paper, legally binding herself to a man she had met less than forty-eight hours ago.

"Sign here, Miss Hart," the lead attorney instructed, pointing to a thick stack of documents. "This clause ensures your mother's medical trust is irrevocable."

Liya signed her name, her hand shaking.

When the lawyers finally left, Adrian walked into the room. He carried a small, black velvet box.

"Stand up," he requested softly.

Liya stood, smoothing her simple jeans. Adrian opened the box. Inside rested a diamond ring so massive and brilliant it looked heavy enough to drag her hand to the floor. It was a flawless, emerald-cut diamond surrounded by a halo of smaller stones.

"It belonged to my grandmother," Adrian said, taking her left hand. "It is a symbol of the Moretti matriarch. When the families see this on your finger, they will know my claim is absolute."

He slid the ring onto her finger. It fit perfectly. A shiver ran up Liya's arm as his skin brushed hers.

"It's beautiful," she whispered.

"We have to make an official public appearance tonight," Adrian said, his gaze dropping to her lips before meeting her eyes again. "Elena Romanov is hosting a charity gala at the Pierre Hotel. All five families will be there. We are going to walk in, announce our engagement, and dare them to make a move."

"I don't have anything to wear to a gala," Liya said nervously.

Adrian smiled, a dark, thrilling expression.

"I've already taken care of that. The stylists will be here in ten minutes. Tonight, you are going to look like a queen."
