Chapter 15 - The Kidnapping

|

The rooftop fell silent, save for the howling wind and Elena’s pained groans.

Adrian dragged himself across the concrete, ignoring his bleeding leg, and pulled Liya into his arms.

"You came for me," he breathed, kissing her fiercely, tasting rain and gunpowder. "You crazy, beautiful woman."

"I wasn't going to let her kill you," Liya cried, dropping the gun and clinging to him.

Before they could celebrate their survival, the heavy steel door to the roof burst open again.

Lorenzo stepped out, followed by a massive, scarred enforcer. Lorenzo held a remote detonator in his hand.

"Drop the weapon, Adrian!" Lorenzo shouted, his eyes wild with desperation. "I have C4 wired to the panic room downstairs! You drop the gun, or I blow your precious mother-in-law to pieces!"

Liya screamed. "No!"

Adrian froze. The mafia king, who had never surrendered to anyone, slowly lowered his weapon and kicked it across the wet roof.

"Let them go, Lorenzo," Adrian demanded, his voice a lethal rumble. "You want the throne. Take it. But let the women go."

"You think I'm stupid?" Lorenzo sneered. "If I leave her alive, you'll never stop hunting me. The girl is my leverage."

Lorenzo nodded to his enforcer. The massive man grabbed Liya by her hair, ripping her out of Adrian's arms.

"Don't touch her!" Adrian roared, trying to stand, but his wounded leg gave out.

"I'm taking the girl to the warehouse," Lorenzo said coldly. "You have one hour to sign the syndicate over to my name officially. If you try to follow us, I hit the detonator."

The enforcer dragged Liya toward the private helipad on the far side of the roof, where a dark chopper was already powering up. Liya kicked and fought, but the man was too strong. She was thrown into the back of the helicopter, screaming Adrian's name as they lifted off into the stormy night.
