Chapter 18 - The Blooming Pixie|

A year passed.
My hair began to grow back—first as a soft dark fuzz, then into a sleek, stunning pixie cut that framed my face with sharp, elegant lines. Every stage of growth felt like meeting a stronger version of myself.
My career flourished. Under my leadership as Regional Sales Director, my division shattered company records, earning me a seat on the executive board.
I used a portion of my earnings to completely renovate my house. I knocked down the dark, heavy wooden partitions Beatrice loved, replacing them with modern glass walls, bright white quartz counters, and open balconies that let the sunlight flood every room.
I filled the space with art, fresh flowers, and music.
One evening, my lawyer Julian dropped by to deliver the finalized divorce decree signed by the judge.
“You’re officially a free woman, Mara,” Julian said, handing me the crisp document over a glass of wine.
“I’ve been free for a year, Julian,” I smiled, signing my maiden name on the final receipt. “This paper just makes it official for the rest of the world.”
He laughed warmly. “What will you do now?”
“Live,” I said simple. “Without permissions, without apologies, and without moochers.”
That night, I stood on my balcony, looking out over the city lights. I felt light, powerful, and completely at peace with my journey. I had survived the darkness, stripped away the parasites, and built a kingdom on my own terms.

I believed the drama was finally over.
