Chapter 14 - Elena's Strike

Unnoticed in the chaotic gloom, creeping silently through the shadows of the ruined grand hall, was Elena, the oldest and most fiercely loyal maid in the mansion. She had served Daniel’s family for forty years, loving him as if he were her own son. While the security guards were paralyzed by the threat of the detonator, Elena had moved with stealthy purpose.
She emerged silently from the darkness directly behind Veronica. In her trembling, aged hands, she wielded a massive, heavy-duty solid silver serving tray, snatched from a nearby catering table. With a fierce cry that defied her advanced age, Elena swung the heavy silver platter with all her might.
The solid metal connected violently with the center of Veronica’s back. The loud, resounding crash echoed through the hall. The brutal, unexpected impact completely shattered Veronica’s balance. She gasped, stumbling hard to the side. The sudden jolt caused her fingers to open, and the lethal hunting knife clattered harmlessly onto the marble floor, sliding away into the debris.
Taking immediate advantage of the distraction, Valeria lashed out with her legs, kicking the stumbling woman hard in the shins, pushing her further away from Daniel’s bleeding body.
Seeing the immediate threat neutralized and the knife disarmed, the hesitation among the security team vanished.

"Take her down!" Thomas roared.
Two heavily armed guards sprinted toward the stepmother, their weapons drawn, ready to tackle her to the ground. But Veronica, though bruised and furious, was far from defeated. As the guards closed in, she scrambled backward, her hand diving into her clutch. She pulled out the black remote control, her thumb pressing down hard on the bright red button.
